Never the first!
Just wanna catch you up on my trip home, on some things I learned and report how wonderful the Conference was. As always I do a better job recording notes on things going THERE then coming HERE (home). I didn't start out for home immediately after the conference as it ended at 2 o'clock on Saturday and I just didn't have it in me to push myself for the almost 6 hour drive home. I stopped at a motel a bit out of town. It felt good starting out fresh on Sunday. I saw......
at least 5 (and I think I lost count) deer that apparently wasn't able to understand about the deer crossing signs cause they met their fate by the side of the road. I figured out how to listen to my churches Online Sunday AM service and it was just wonderful listening to our little orchestra playing. I love being a part of that and to hear, on the other side, how nice it sounds was quite a blessing. I didn't realize. I stopped at a Burger King to use their potty and also order some little something. It turned out to be a horrible experience but I did talk to a couple young girls, they were sisters. They were kind to me and waited to "hear" if my name was called for my Vanilla Shake. Just like the incredible amount of time I had to wait for that I also had to wait an incredible time to use the restroom. But again these young girls were kind. And I made it home.
Never the first - by that I'm referring to being first alphabetical by last name. I mean come on, F for Fish is quite a ways down the alphabet but if you check out the photo below you will see my name badge right there, the very first one. An F being first, never heard of.
6 word memoirs. We talked about that and we were asked to write one. I came up with:
Voice stolen, gone to find it!
Rejected believer, surviving and starting over!
Rejected, but surviving storyteller starting over!
Not trying to live with a "victim" mentality but if I write to encourage others I kinda want my enemy to be defined and that enemy after all, is rejection.
Did some ekphrastic writing. Ekphrastic is writing that draws inspiration from art. We were shown a picture that was drawn by an attendee and were given 15 minutes to write about it. It was quite a challenge for sure but I came up with a poem.
I also fear I have another book in me. I know I gotta get #1 book published first and I have screamed from the housetop - "That is all I have! There is just one book running around in my heart." However, on the drive home thoughts were popping up ninety to nothing and I'm not so sure there is just one anymore. Oh my!!!
It was a Christian Writers Conference and I can honestly say there was not a speakers presentation that didn't make me feel like I was in a church service. A wonderful, you wanna be there kind of church service. God being acknowledged and given glory and it was just a refreshing, wonderful time!!
Met many new people and so thankful to have found this group. Thank you Sheri Shonk!!
On another note: Now with the updates on the blog you can now leave notes here. I do like to see something if you are visiting my blog, so if you don't feel comfortable with a comment, liking on Facebook is still mighty fine. The blog shows me now many visits but not who those visits are from. Do know I appreciate knowing you are visiting and keeping up with me. You are my family.
And on yet another totally different note: The studio apartment is coming along nicely and I will be posting about that in the next few day. The walls are PAINTED you all. I'm starting to really dream and excitement is high!
Enjoyed reading 😊
